We know that each person’s needs are different, so we take the time to get to know the individual and create a care plan that truly works for them. Our goal is to provide the right level of support to help people live as fully and comfortably as possible.
We work closely with families, friends and healthcare professionals to ensure care is joined up and centred around the person. By focusing on strengths and abilities as well as areas where help is needed, we aim to build confidence and improve quality of life.
What is Korsakoff Syndrome?
Korsakoff Syndrome is a memory disorder often linked to a severe deficiency of vitamin B1 (thiamine), most commonly associated with long-term alcohol misuse, though it can have other causes.
It affects the brain’s ability to store and recall information, which can make everyday life more challenging. People with Korsakoff Syndrome may also have difficulties learning new information and keeping track of time or events.
Although it is a long-term condition, the right care and support can help manage symptoms, maintain routines and make daily living more manageable. Early diagnosis and ongoing support can also reduce the risk of symptoms becoming worse.
Our Approach to Korsakoff Care
Our approach focuses on consistency, reassurance and practical support. We work to create structured daily routines, which can help reduce confusion and make life feel more predictable. Familiar carers, regular patterns and gentle reminders all play an important part in our care.
We also encourage activities that promote mental stimulation and independence, while always providing the safety and support needed. This might include gentle physical activity, hobbies, or tasks that give a sense of achievement and purpose.
Support we provide
We offer a range of support for people with Korsakoff Syndrome, including:

I never wanted any carers but had to have them after breaking my leg,it was the best decision I ever made. I’ve always struggled and done things myself,I’ve always hated asking for help. My “Mountbatten carers” are an absolute godsend, they are kind, caring, they help me with everything, washing, dressing, getting up from my chair, anything I need. They do,nothing is a problem for them. I ended up in hospital again before Christmas and was diagnosed with heart failure,so now I’m dealing with that as well as all my other medical problems. I’m not steady on my feet so I’m glad when I get up I’ve got both my carers to hold on too,I can’t even carry anything as I use crutches. I rely on my carers so much mentally and physically,I don’t know where I’d be without them Debbie McAllister2025-03-06
